If you are going for a taxi- or a sightseeing flight, make sure that the company you choose has a valid JAR-OPS 3 approval issued by the Swedish Transport Agency. The company will also need an Operating License (OL) if the flight is going to be other than local. The authority has no public lists with approved JAR-OPS 3 operators, but they have two lists over companies with valid OLs (click here and here).

Aerial works
Pure aerial works companies do not need the approvals mentioned above - they can operate with a national aerial work permit (LFS 2007:49). However, the most JAR-OPS 3 operators have an aerial work section included in their approvals. There are no public lists with all these operators, but we have them listed here. Call the Transport Agency (+46 771 503 503) to verify their validity.

Polarhelikopter (retired)
Polarhelikopter was established by two persons in Kiruna in 1993. It was a result of Heliflyg's decision to close its activity in the region, which left a lot of potential costumers looking for a new operator. The activity took off with one Hughes 500 and landed with two EC120s within ten years. The company, which was the most northern based helicopter company in Sweden.

The company had its helicopters based at the airport in Kiruna during the winter and at the field base in Abisko in the summers.

It was purchased by Kallax Flyg in January of 2006. The helicopters remained in the company for a year, after which they were transferred to Kallax Flyg and painted in an all-red livery.
